Youth Street Theatre Ensemble
WAREABOUTS Youth Street Theatre Ensemble is an initiative of Andy Ko since 2008, to bring live performance to the Fairfield LGA.
The Wareabouts training program provides skills development and performance opportunities for young emerging artists in physical and visual theatre. As a production group, the Wareabouts Ensemble explores performance art traditions and devises captivating outdoor theatre work for spaces and audiences in Fairfield.
2010 Program
1. Weekends on Ware Street
The Wareabouts Ensemble is a membership program open to young and emerging performance artists aged 18 to 29. The work is based around Clowning, drawing from a diverse range of visual and physical performance styles, traditions and methods.
Weekends on Ware Street are weekly training sessions, held both indoors and outdoors, in which Ensemble members get to collaborate on performances, explore creative processes, and develop their individual strengths as performers and artists.
There are two 6-week terms in the year. Term One: Aug-Sep; Term Two: Nov-Dec.
2. Sidewalk Games
Three times in the year, the Wareabouts Ensemble invites young performers and artists from around Sydney to come together in Fairfield to participate in a day of serious play. Using elements of improvisation and gaming, these sessions are a practical forum where broad ideas and techniques in performance art can be shared and explored.
The Sidewalk Games are held in January, April, and October.
3. Clowning About for Kids
These classes in clowning and performance are for children aged 7 to 11. They aim to exercise creativity and performance skills through mime, physical theatre, and ‘funny business’.
Classes run in the April and October school holidays.
4. The Night Fantastic
Throughout the year, the Wareabouts Ensemble work on original performance projects driven by member’s initiatives. Their work will be showcased in July as a festival event in Fairfield.
